As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was dee*** touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.

作为一名高一学生的家长，想必您时常为孩子的学业问题操心，非常感谢您的支持！
作为英语老师，我也盼望着与您携手，与您交流，共同探讨孩子成才的问题。英语学不好，在今后的社会中就难以立足。我想努力，这就需要您的支持和合作。高中的英语教材（5a）与大学英语教材是配套的，这就意味着：现在的英语成绩不仅直接影响孩子的期末考试与升学，还影响着孩子将来的英语学*！
半年的共同学*，使我半喜半忧，喜的是，我们高一三班的学生都很聪明，接受能力强，学*起来显得很轻松，让我觉得忧虑的是：部分孩子对英语不太重视。（包括与个别家长的交流中，发现有家长也未重视）可能这里也包含许多家长觉得英语不太好辅导，你说语文数学吧，还懂点，这英语吧，还真是不好不懂装懂，所以导致相当一部分的孩子英语基础打得很不牢，个别的孩子甚至拼读、书写、背诵等学*英语的好*惯还没有很好的养成，需要从头开始。但是，孩子们上课时的专注同时也让我感到欣喜。认真的孩子一定能把英语学好！
我确信：英语要学好和智商无关，学不好英语的人都是懒惰的人。
新教材与初中的教材跨度很大，要求也上了几个台阶，对孩子们具有比较大的难度。细心的家长可能就会发现，高中的课本和初中的课本相比，无论是从词汇量，语法还是课文篇幅的长短都有了明显的区别，初中的内容相当简单，它简直就是三年级知识的巩固，稍微有所延伸，而高一一下子就接触并需要掌握两种时态。所以，有些同学很不能适应，初中学得轻松，还考好成绩，怎么到了高一不行了，这样的现象很普遍，说到底，还是好的*惯没有养成，不够勤奋。在这里，我要点名表扬几位学生，她们学*态度端正，上课认真，书写工整，正因为如此，无论什么考试都能取得很好的'成绩。另外我还要提几个同学，他们的潜力很大，但因为还不够认真刻苦，所以没有发挥出自己最好的水*，希望家长能够配合老师，把孩子的成绩抓上去。我坚信：如果您的孩子在您的支持和我的指导下能够及时完成我布置的任务，那么一定能学好。要教导您的孩子一开始就要有吃苦耐劳的精神。坚持严谨的学*作风，成绩马上就会见效。
目前的形势决定了英语学科的重要性，请各位家长务必重视英语这一学科，你们思想上重视了，无形中也给孩子以熏陶，重视与不重视肯定是完全不同的，在英语课堂上，大部分学生都能很活跃的回答老师提出的问题，积极跟着老师拼读单词，朗读课文。其实这也制造了一种假象，学生认为自己常常被老师提问，认为自己能够回答老师的问题，于是认为自己的英语学得很不错，自我感觉特别好。于是下课后在英语上花的时间就少了。其实要学好英语，课上占40%，其余的60%还需要学生在课后不断的巩固，加深记忆。在课上老师更多的是教授新知识，当然课上也会有少量的时间巩固新学的知识。但是这些时间是公共的时间，而不是每个学生私有的时间，所以不可能照顾到每个学生，不可能让所有学生都达到相同的程度。况且每个学生对新知识得接受能力都是不同的，有的可能当堂就已经有很深的印象，很难忘记，但这肯定是很少的。大部分学生都只能是初步接触了新知识，要真正接受新知识还要学生在课后多下功夫，不然肯定会和别的同学拉下差距。
那么在课后学生到底该怎么做才能把其余的60%补回来呢？英语毕竟不是我们自己的语言，大多数学生除了英语课其余时间根本就不会想到要说英语，所以，在课后一定要主动抽时间为自己补*英语。学好英语，不外乎就是在听，说，读，写这些方面下功夫。
首先说一下听，每个学生都有和书相配套的磁带，可是请各位家长检查一下自己的子女的英语磁带，有多少学生的磁带还是和刚发的时候一样的，根本就没有听过。不要说另外买什么英语听力磁带或者英语学*的碟片了，连自己手头的磁带都不去听，光靠上课听一点点的磁带，学生的听力根本就不能有什么发展。不会听就不能说，而说白了，学了英语就是要说，那不是白学了么？听录音机跟读，目的应该是两种，一种同学是上课没有完全消化，听录音是补充学*的过程，另外一种是提高自己的听力和口语表达能力，要学生尽力地去模仿录音机里的发音，从而使自己的听力和口语都提高一个层次。
接下来是说，英语是一门语言，学了就是要说，要和别人交流。我们学的英语不应该是哑巴英语，要让每个学生学会勇敢地说出来。在课上我会用各种方法来刺激学生，激发他们说英语的积极性，大多数学生也确实做得很好。可是班级里人多，对每个人来说，说的机会就少。所以下课也要说；放学回家也要说。在学校，我鼓励学生把所学的英语对话运用到生活中去，这样有更真实的情景，更能让学生有发挥的余地。在家里，希望家长也能鼓励学生说英语，也许你会说你自己也听不懂，请不要这样想，其实学生需要是你的鼓励，你听了他们说的只要简单表扬一句，他们就会很满足了。有时候你们也可以不懂装懂，或者还可以让学生反过来教你，他们会觉得很自豪，因为自己所学得派上了用场。
接下来是读。有句话：“读书破万卷，下笔如有神。”学英语也是这样，很多家长也明白，学英语要培养语感，也就是语言的感觉，如果有很好的语感，那么不管是说话，做题目，还是写文章，都很轻松，很简单了。那么语感怎么来呢？就是靠读出来的。一定要让学生养成每天读英语的*惯，这是学英语的最基本的学**惯了。每天早上一定要读20分钟左右的英语，哪怕有时候时间来不及了，即使是迟到也要读，并且每天都坚持，绝不因任何原因间断。无论什么事情都贵在坚持嘛。如果你的子女还没有养成这样的学**惯，请你一定要督促他，刚开始也许会比较难，时间久了，就会*惯成自然。就像早上起来要刷牙洗脸一样，要让他们把读英语当作每天必做的一件事。
最后是写。主要就是单词短语的默写，这是学英语的必经之路。单词往往背过就容易会忘记，所以要不断的背默写，不断的翻新，这是没有办法的。背单词的时候要边拼边写，嘴巴和手都要动起来，嘴上十遍不如手上一遍。家长在这里要作好检查督促的工作，不要用不懂英语来帮助你的孩子学会偷懒，你可以报中文，让你的孩子默写，然后对照书本批改订正，每天坚持的话，你一定会有意想不到的效果。还有句型，学生应该在课上领会句型的意思和运用方法。课后还需要通过多读课文，多练*才能巩固所学的句型。所以请各位家长不光要注重孩子背单词短语的情况，还要让他重视句子的重要性。

一、激发学生的学*兴趣

⑴抓住段落或全文中心思想，不逐字逐句地翻译。
⑵碰到生词，没有必要每个都去查词典，只有当该词影响到整段或全文意思的理解时，再去查一下词典。
⑶要求默读。
⑷除非是个别难句，否则不要逐句分析语法结构。
⑸通过课文的问答题，或阅读理解的判断题，也可帮助对原文的理解。 在问题的'设计上照顾到不同层次的学生，做到分层设计任务，分层教学。对较简单的表层问题，让基础较弱的同学来回答，让这些学生在课堂上体验成功的喜悦。在“快速阅读”(Fast-reading)后的问题设计也是遵循这个原则。在“仔细阅读”(Careful-reading)过程中，让学生判断句子正误。采用抽取卡片的方式，让一个同学读，然后让另外一个学生回答正确与否。这样既能锻炼学生读的能力，又能检验学生的听力水*，同时有可以激发学生积极主动参与课堂活动的意识。
四、利用多媒体辅助教学
目前，各级各类学校都大力提倡运用多媒体进行教学，我在这期间我们自己亲自动手做了多个高中教学多媒体课件并进行了大量的教学实践与研究，运用多媒体辅助教学使学生在听、说、读、写方面有了不同程度的提高。在传统教学中，强调以教师为中心，教师是取得教学效果的具有决定作用的因素，而学生未能参与控制。这种“没有丝毫兴趣的强制性学*，将会扼杀学生探求真理的欲望(爱因斯坦语)。” 柏拉图说：“兴趣是最好的老师”。多媒体技术介入课堂教学能够很好地解决这个问题，教师恰当地把握中学生特别好奇、好动、好胜的心理特征，挖掘教材中的趣味因素，以生动的画面、鲜艳的色彩、恰当的解说、感人的音响等丰富的媒体表现形式，采用故事、游戏、直观、操作、设疑等激情引趣的方法，创设出一个引人入胜的情境，来调动学生学*的积极性和主动性，充分激发学生的学*兴趣和求知欲望，甚至把知识的学*融入到新颖别致的娱乐形式中，发挥寓教于乐的学*优势，使枯燥的学*变得轻松愉快。这种浓厚的学*兴趣和注意力高度集中，正是学生掌握知识的前提。

实际，认真落实了学校和教育科研室提出的学期工作目标和要求，整体落实了学期初教学工作计划，提高工作的时代性、时效性、针对性。树立教育质量化的观念，积极投身教科研实践。争取工作有所创新，教学反思进一步落到了实处。充分发挥活力，努力把教学工作落到实处。现将学期工作总结如下：
一、具体情况分析
在上学期的考试中，35班及格率为31、2%，36班为30、5%；两班英语成绩相对较弱一些，但总的来说，两个班学生的英语学*状况不容乐观，主要存在的问题是：语言基础知识不扎实、综合语言运用能力差，试卷中阅读、尤其完形填空失分情况严重，改错题存在越该越错的情况，书面表达语言不规范、词不达意情况明显，存在诸多不规范现象，部分学生没有良好学*英语的*惯与能力，高分段学生匮乏。
本学期学校指标任务是：尽量缩小与同级学校的差距，期末联考中力争进步。
二、教学内容及要求
本学期需要进行英语必修1、2的教学，之后进行复*。在教学时注重知识的前后联系，增强主干知识的系统性；于复*时侧重帮助学生全面且系统地掌握高中所学英语基础知识（重点是词汇、语法），夯实学生基础，抓中等促学困，进一步巩固优等生。
三、课堂教学特殊原则坚持“学生主体”的原则
在教学过程中坚持少讲多练，精讲精练，力争做到*题讲评过程中“三讲三不讲”，即讲清重点，难点，疑点；学生会的不讲，学生能自己解决的不讲，估计讲了也不能理解的则不讲。对于基础知识题要做到：先练后讲，逢讲必练，讲后再练。
所教班级学生词汇掌握欠缺，因而影响到其他各单项成绩的提高。因此始终把学生的词汇积累与提高阅读能力放在最重要的位置。通过单词轮回记忆和长期的阅读训练，帮助学生拓展词汇量，拓宽知识面，重点提高概括，推断能力和长句理解能力。
四、具体措施
1、抓好词汇复*
根据《高考词汇手册》，把词汇复*主要穿插在高三新课讲授之中，做好词汇复*工作。词汇量的大小是英语学*及成绩提高的关键因素，它极大地影响着学生其他各方面能力的提高，因此一定要扎实、有效，争取做到长效。2、夯实语法知识的基础
在新授课时结合《讲练测》及《北京联考卷》进行语法复*，然后在第二轮复*时进行语法专项指导与练*。对学生进行语法复*，要各个击破、一一掌握。同时加强单项选择题解题技巧的训练，提高学生分析问题和解决问题的能力。3、加强语篇整体把握及限时阅读训练
在考前复*中，将语篇训练作为贯穿英语学*的主线，是新教材、新大纲和新考纲所要求的。语篇训练不仅包括阅读理解，还包括完形填空，短文改错和书面表达。在这四项专题训练中，阅读理解是重中之重。根据高考试卷对阅读理解题限时的要求，学生在做阅读理解练*时，一定要有时间限制，即应在35分钟内完成五篇阅读中的20道选择题。要充分利用*时所掌握的阅读技巧，如寻找主题句、猜词、推理、跳读、略读等获取所需要的信息，反复揣摸思路，整体把握文章，最终高质量完成阅读任务。每天让学生有阅读材料并及时讲评。每天做一篇完形填空和一篇阅读理解，以强化阅读理解的训练。坚持持之以恒的自我阅读训练，阅读速度和正确率定会日渐提高。
3、书面表达及改错
书面表达训练分体裁进行，首先让学生背诵每种体裁文章，然后让学生通过把范文与所给语言信息进行对比，再进行同体裁文章写作训练。坚持写作、不断修改，强化训练，提高写作能力。每周至少一篇作文，通过面批、抽查相结合，以及课上利用多媒体展台全体学生共同批改的形式，加强写作方法指导和写作*惯的培养。
短文改错训练通过单句、段落的方式进行，尤其结合学生写作训练材料、让学生相互改正自己写作中的错误，切身体验错误的存在与隐形，进而运用到段落的改错训练中。本学期改错训练主要放在套题训练中进行。

1)、好单元教学，突出单元教学重点。认真学*任务性教学理论，贯穿于教学实践中。把握好各个环节并注意和其他教学理论相结合，让学生不仅仅学*知识，并且得到本事的培养。
2)、强教改意识。要整体提高学生的思想认识和文化品味。要将“教法指导”转为“学法指导”，重视指导学生思维方法的学*，要引导并鼓励学生的创新意识。相对淡化知识系统，强调运用语言的本事和语感本事的培养，重视积累，感悟和熏陶。新教材中的“口语交际”要让学生充分活动，还要采用多种形式拓展学生的英语实践活动，努力提高学生学*英语的兴趣。
3)、内课外阅读
a、教师指导阅读，教师除了课文中阅读材料，还要指导学生的课外阅读，备课时要对其资料，重难点，方式方法等都要作通盘研究。另外还要注意“教本”和“课外阅读”的相关延伸，即“课外阅读”和“教本”具体课文的相关衔接。同时，教师还要对学生进行阅读策略方面的指导。
b、学生单元小结：
1、积累词语，对课文涉及的重要词语，要总结、查字典解释重点记忆。
2、阅读报刊文章写点评;3。每单元写一百字左右与课文资料相关的作文。
c、课堂交流，课堂内材料都以书面形式和口头形式呈现，最终由教师收集作为资料保存。
d、英语学*小组活动，每个小组每学期都有机会在课堂展示对一篇文章或一个专题的理解，质疑，评析，欣赏。这是学生自主学*和“研究性阅读”的尝试。
4)写作：
a、根据教材的编写体例，把教本上的写作资料与学生练笔结合。
b、本期拟作作文每单元1次。
c、作文批改要讲实效，要调动学生参与，可先由学生自评或互评，再由教师点评，对其得失进行分析总结，并提倡学生写后记或重作，以期不断提高写作本事。
d、对优秀的作文可进行交流。
3、充分利用电脑，投影仪，磁带，录像等电教手段，适当的时候使用多媒体教室，使英语课堂更加形象，生动活泼。搞好我校的网校工作，制作各单元的电子文本。
4、认真准备本期晚自*的教学工作安排。
三、具体安排
课时进度全期新课授课16周，每周7课时计，共110课时。每单元授课89课时，本期共有10单元，预计需90课时。测验和考试56次。
一，学*课标，明确教学目标。
为了使我的英语教学适应新时期英语教学要求，树立起新的育人理念，我们英语教师抽时间对《英语课程标准》进行了研读，了解了此次英语课程改革的目的，掌握了此次英语改革的重点，理解了英语教学原则，学会了一些科学评价原则等，从而为后面的教学带给了充分的依据，奠定了扎实的基础，保证了教学的顺利进行。
二，扎实备课，理清教学思路。
备课是课堂教学的重要环节，我在备课时做到了以下几点：
1、课前备课，做到“有备而来”。我认真阅读各种教科参考书，既备教材，教法，有备学生。结合学生的实际和教材的资料，既要思考知识的纵向联系，又要思考新知识的横向衔接；既要突出重点，又要突出难点；既要体现完整的教学过程，又要注意好个环节的过渡自然。
2、课中备课，灵活安排简单易操作的游戏活动。我透过游戏引入新课教学时，为了不打消学生的用心性，我在实施教学的时候，总是尽量设计一些简单易操作的游戏及其活动，将教学资料层层铺开，把枯燥乏味的课堂转成生动搞笑“快乐堡”，让他们在快乐中学*，在玩中获得新制。在活动中学生们都乐于参与，充分调动了学生的情感态度和兴趣，学生的用心性得到了充分发挥，教学效果良好。
3、课后备课，总结教学经验。每上完一单元，我都及时对该单元做出总结和反思，学出教后感，肯定本节课成功的地方，探讨该单元的不足之处，为以后的教学工作打下基础。
三，认真上课，体现以人为本。
《英语课程标准》提出“让学生在教师的指导下，透过感知，体验，实践，参与和合作等方式，实现任务的.目标，感受成功。”这便要求英语课的教学要以学生为主，培养他们学*英语的兴趣，提高他们对词汇，句型的听说认读和语言实际运用的潜力。为此，我在实际的教学过程中做了以下几点：
1、巧设导入，培养兴趣。每节的教学我首先透过做游戏，唱英语歌来激发学生的学*兴趣，让学生融洽在学*英语的氛围内。
2、图文结合，掌握新知。根据教材“图文并茂”的特点，充分运用单词卡片、实物教具、简笔画及肢体语言来启发学生，使学生带着明确的任务目标，并借助图片、动作、表情等手段掌握其义，让他们用心主动参与学*获取新知过程，培养他们学*英语的兴趣。在遇到难读的单词或句子时，我不厌其烦，耐心教导学生认读，力争让他们学了就懂，懂了会用，培养他们认读的潜力。在学*新知的同时，还适时对他们进行思想教育。
3、游戏活动，巩固新知。在完成了每节课的新授课任务后，抓住学生争强好胜的心理，透过师生互动、生生互动的游戏活动将教学资料层层铺开；为了尊重学生的个体差异，营造宽松的学*环境，以简单易操作的趣味性、多样化游戏为主来实施教学，让学生进行反复模仿、认读、玩演、视听，从而给他们带给充分的活动和交流机会，让学生在玩的过程中获得新知，提高他们语言的运用潜力，培养他们的学*兴趣。
4、透过复*新知。我常在每节课结束的前十分钟，让学生听有关本节课教学资料的录音磁带。第一遍先认真听，第二遍边听边跟读。在学生能听读后并要求学生用相应的肢体语言或动作入情入境的来模仿、表演对话。在学生进行合作学*、表演时及时给予示范和指导，让学生充分体验到成功的喜悦，体会到学*英语的乐趣。这样既复*了本节课的知识要点，又提高了同学们的听说潜力和读音的准确性，，从而让学生真正做到眼到、口到、心到、手到。
四、加强自学，不断积累知识。
由于本人在英语教学方面经验甚少，自己的知识又有限，在教学的同时，时时虚心向资历深的教师请教，和我们英语组的同事一齐学*有关英语方面的教学教法，加强自身的业务学*、扩大视野；用心收集有助于英语课堂教学的各种游戏资料，时常听录音纠正自己的语音语调。
总之，一学期的教学工作自己付出了很多，收到的回报也不少：领导的信任，使我精力充沛；同事的帮忙，使**劲十足；学生的渴求，使我信心倍增。我会努力填补自己在教学中的不足，不断改善教学方法，在教学中设计一些学生喜爱的活动、游戏来辅助课堂教学，激活课堂。用心开发和有效利用课程资源，更好的为英语教学服务，力争在今后的英语教学工作中取得更好的成绩。我相信有耕耘总会有收获。
这学期以来，本人期担任的是高一年级高一（2）、高一（6）两个班的英语教学工作，每周的课时是5节，两个班共十节。从开学以来，本人在教学方面，能够认真的备课，仔细的批改作业和进行教学反思，热情的尽量上好每一节课，最大程度的提高学生的英语水*。一学期来，本人所带班级的英语成绩取得了较好的成绩，但也存在些不足，现将一学期来的英语教学工作作如下总结：
一、课前备好每一节课是搞好教学的前提。
针对高一（2）、高一（6）两个班英语基础上的不同，每节课在准备的时候都要有所侧重，一（2）班是重点班，学生基础相对较好，对于2班不仅要强调基础更要加强灵活运用的训练。而高一（6）班是普通班，学生的英语基础相对要差些，则把重点都集中在基础知识上，把短语句型以及语法点讲清楚，让学生都弄明白。在备课过程中的有所差别，保证了英语课更强的针对性和教学目标的完成。
二、认真上好每一节课是搞好教学的关键。
每节课上通过做大量的练*，讲解，提问，小黑板等方式，使学生们在作题的过程中掌握新知识，并能巩固原来学过的语法点，循序渐进的把英语知识，英国文化传播开来，增加学生们对英语学*的兴趣，从而不同程度的提高其英语水*。
三、课后认真批改作业是搞好教学的最好反思。
通过小测试等不断促使学生总结学*中的经验。及时的批改每天的作业，并立即将学生掌握的情况反馈到第二节的教学中去，这样有利于学生迅速的纠正自己新知识上的错误，巩固教学效果。
此外，经常虚心的去听其他老师的英语课，不断学*好的方法和经验。并把所学的新东西及时运用于下一节课里，不断提高自己的教学水*。对于一些基础差，学*新知识有困难的需要帮助的同学进行辅导。利用自己的闲暇时间以及晚自*，给一些英语基础差，学*新知识有困难的同学补*初中英语语法知识等，帮助他们更好的学*高一的英语课程。还有就是经常向同学们播放一些好的英文电影，英文音乐等，扩大学生们的视野，增强的英语的兴趣，此外还经常在课堂中介绍高考的趋势和动向，使学生树立良好的学*方向。

Can money buy happiness？Different people have different opinions. Some think yes，while others hold the opposite.
It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants，and live a life of comfort and security. However，it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. It is a common view that＂money is the root of all evil.＂The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money，resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.
So，money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it is used. If we make honest and sensible use of money，it can be a stepping-stone to happiness l Although money cannot buy happiness，it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.
