The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works and may very well become one of the true claics of this played a GREat part in his winning the pulizer prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary is also one of my favorite The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impreion on me.
I first read this book when I was in my now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.

This year summer vacation, I read the American well-known writer Hemingway"s novel “ old person and sea ”. I extremely admire in the novel the senior fisherman"s will, he let me understand one person certainly must have relentless spirit, only then could obtain successfully.
The novel description is one year near sixty years of age senior fisherman, when alone goes to sea in one fishing, fished one big fish, actually did not pull. The senior fisherman socialized several days after the fish, only then discovered this was the big marlin which one surpassed the oneself fishing boat several fold, although knew perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up. I read a famous American writer Ernest Hemingways novel "The Old Man and the Sea ",admire the will of the old fisherman in the novel,he has taught me a person must have the perseverance to be successful.

The book written by Hemingway tells us a story that an old man whose name is Santiago went out to do some fishing on the sea on his own but down on his luck he hadn’t caught any fish for 84 days. Next day he caught a huge marlin which is bigger than his boat and took a formidable battle with it. He beat it at the end. When he was on the way home the smells of blood of the marlin draw a lot of sharks’ attention and they fought for it. In order to protect the marlin and him the old man tried his best to fight with them. After a cruel fight he won it and came back home tiredly. Although he only got a skeleton of the giant marlin at last he is also a great hero in many people’s heart.
In the article the old man is a great man. Although he failed for many time in his life he never gave up. He is a steel-willing man who insisted his dream and work hard. You can destroy him but you can’t beat him. Whatever he faced to he would never yield to the difficult which shows a strong spirit.

I thought it's so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven't read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.
In fact, I didn't understand the story at that time. I didn't know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn't find where' s the prejudice. I thought it's normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. I'm a prejudiced person so I can't find where's wrong. I merely like to do the things I like. This book gives me a deep impression especially the description about the man’s braveness and persistence.
In this book, in order to suggest the profundity of the old man’s sacrifice and the glory that derives from it, Hemingway purposefully likens Santiago to Christ, who, according to Christian theology, gave his life for the greater glory of humankind. Crucifixion imagery is the most noticeable way in which Hemingway creates the symbolic parallel between Santiago and Christ. When Santiago’s palms are first cut by his fishing line, the reader cannot help but think of Christ suffering his stigmata. Later, when the sharks arrive, Hemingway portrays the old man as a crucified martyr, saying that he makes a noise similar to that of a man having nails driven through his hands. Furthermore, the image of the old man struggling up the hill with his mast across his shoulders recalls Christ’s march toward Calvary. Even the position in which Santiago collapses on his bed-face down with his arms out straight and the palms of his hands up-brings to mind the image of Christ suffering on the cross. Hemingway employs these images in the final pages of the novella in order to link Santiago to Christ, who exemplified transcendence by turning loss into gain, defeat into triumph, and even death into renewed life.

Santiago?,the old man of the novella’s title, Santiago is a Cuban fisherman who has had an extended run of bad luck. Despite his expertise, he has been unable to catch a fish for eighty-four days. He is humble, yet exhibits a justified pride in his abilities. His knowledge of the sea and its creatures, and of his craft, is unparalleled and helps him preserve a sense of hope regardless of circumstance.
The marlin?,Santiago hooks the marlin, which we learn at the end of the novella measures eighteen feet, on the first afternoon of his fishing expedition. Manolin?,a boy presumably in his adolescence, Manolin is Santiago’s apprentice and devoted attendant. The old man first took him out on a boat when he was merely five years old. Due to Santiago’s recent bad luck, Manolin’s parents have forced the boy to go out on a different fishing boat. Manolin, however, still cares dee* for the old man, to whom he continues to look as a mentor.
Joe DiMaggio, although DiMaggio never appears in the novel, he plays a significant role nonetheless. Santiago worships him as a model of strength and commitment, and his thoughts turn toward DiMaggio whenever he needs to reassure himself of his own strength. Perico ?,Perico, the reader assumes, owns the bodega in Santiago’s village. He never appears in the novel, but he serves an important role in the fisherman’s life by providing him with newspapers that report the baseball scores. This act establishes him as a kind man who helps the aging Santiago.
Martin,like Perico, Martin, a café owner in Santiago’s village, does not appear in the story. The reader learns of him through Manolin, who often goes to Martin for Santiago’s supper. As the old man says, Martin is a man of frequent kindness who deserves to be repaid.
From the very first paragraph, Santiago is characterized as someone struggling against defeat. He has gone eighty-four days without catching a fish-he will soon pass his own record of eighty-seven days. Almost as a reminder of Santiago’s struggle, the sail of his skiff resembles “the flag of permanent defeat.” But the old man refuses defeat at every turn: he resolves to sail out beyond the other fishermen to where the biggest fish promise to be. He lands the marlin, tying his record of eighty-seven days after a brutal three-day fight, and he continues to ward off sharks from stealing his prey, even though he knows the battle is useless.
Because Santiago is pitted against the creatures of the sea, some readers choose to view the tale as a chronicle of man’s battle against the natural world, but the novella is, more accurately, the story of man’s place within nature. Both Santiago and the marlin display qualities of pride, honor, and bravery, and both are subject to the same eternal law: they must kill or be killed. As Santiago reflects when he watches the weary warbler fly toward shore, where it will inevitably meet the hawk, the world is filled with predators, and no living thing can escape the inevitable struggle that will lead to its death. Santiago lives according to his own observation: “man is not made for defeat . . . [a] man can be destroyed but not defeated.” In Hemingway’s portrait of the world, death is inevitable, but the best men (and animals) will nonetheless refuse to give in to its power. Accordingly, man and fish will struggle to the death, just as hungry sharks will lay waste to an old man’s trophy catch.
The novel suggests that it is possible to transcend this natural law. In fact, the very inevitability of destruction creates the terms that allow a worthy man or beast to transcend it. It is precisely through the effort to battle the inevitable that a man can prove himself. Indeed, a man can prove this determination over and over through the worthiness of the opponents he chooses to face. Santiago finds the marlin worthy of a fight, just as he once found “the great negro of Cienfuegos” worthy. HSantiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated. Instead, he emerges as a hero. Santiago’s struggle does not enable him to change man’s place in the world. Rather, it enables him to meet his most dignified destiny.
While it is certainly true that Santiago’s eighty-four-day run of bad luck is an affront to his pride as a masterful fisherman, and that his attempt to bear out his skills by sailing far into the gulf waters leads to disaster, Hemingway does not condemn his protagonist for being full of pride. On the contrary, Santiago stands as proof that pride motivates men to greatness. Because the old man acknowledges that he killed the mighty marlin largely out of pride, and because his capture of the marlin leads in turn to his heroic transcendence of defeat, pride becomes the source of Santiago’s greatest strength. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It’s pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the he-ro-in-e,though I didn’t think she’s beautiful. But she’s smart. However, I didn’t pay much attention to the plot. I thought it’s so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven’t read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice. In fact, I didn’t understand the story at that time. I didn’t know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn’t find where’ s the prejudice. I thought it’s normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movieeverthing was OK in my minds, except its length. 我读完后，其中的一部分情节深深打动了我。在老人打败了好几次鲨鱼后……又有一条鲨鱼来了，他的鱼叉折断了，但是他又把刀绑在桨上，勇敢地说，“来吧，加拉诺鲨。”
当遇到鲨鱼时，他没有胆怯，没有拱手让鲨鱼吃掉他的鱼肉。当几次奋战失败时，他没有退缩，虽然他明知自己抵不过鲨鱼，却仍然奋力抵抗，一次次用绑在桨板上的刀子将鲨鱼叉死。老人先后对付了六条鲨鱼，但是他每次都使出全部力量，用顽强的毅力决斗下去。这是多么坚强的意志啊！
我不禁想起了我自己。不久前，我做了一道数学题，一看，很难做，就简单地试了一下，不会，就放弃了。我想，反正有答案，还不如干点别的呢。我就去看了答案。妈妈问我：“怎么了？”我谎称：“这道题做了好久也做不出来，就看了看答案。”答案却十分简洁。是啊，我用了我的全部力量了吗？我真的不会做这道题吗？不是。我缺乏的正是老人那种迎难而上的勇气和持之以恒的韧劲。其实，世界上没有难题，只要你下定决心倾尽全力去攻克它，难题就不难了。世界上也没有简单的题，你总是浅尝辄止，简单的也会变成难的。

这位老人虽然失败了，但是他无畏的勇气以及坚持不懈的精神值得让我敬佩。他也明白自己不太可能把这条大鱼带回家中，但起码他去努力了，不管结局如何，他也称得上是位“英雄”。
当代最杰出的理论物理学家霍金身上我仿佛也看到了这位老人的身影！霍金虽然身体残疾，但是他比许多身体健全的人更加“强大”。有些正常人碰到一点挫折就自暴自弃，丧失了生活下去的勇气，而霍金依然不折不挠，在身体不健全的情况下取得了令人嘱目的成就。在霍金的身上，我仿佛看到了海明威笔下老人的影子，他们遇到困难和挫折时勇敢面对，不怕任何艰难险阻，不论前方是光明是黑暗，他们都勇往直前。

当我读到“大马林鱼开始快速地围着小渔船游动，将缆绳缠绕到了桅杆上，老人右手高举着钢叉，在它跃出水面的一瞬间，竭尽全力地向它的心脏掷去，一声哀鸣结束了大鱼的生命，它静静地浮在水面上……”时，我的心也像一块大石头落了地。我非常钦佩老人那种毫不畏惧、坚持不懈的精神，虽然知道对手实力很强，但他没有丝毫退缩，而是迎难而上。正因为有了这种精神，老渔夫才获得了这场生死较量的胜利。我们在生活中也要学*老渔夫的精神，做事情不怕困难，才能取得成功。
在读到大鱼的血腥味被一群鲨鱼嗅到了，争相游来抢食，老人的左手正好在抽筋，他只能使用右手，用木棒、捕到的剑鱼的嘴等一切可以用来攻击的武器自卫，并最终赶走了这群鲨鱼。但大鱼的肉已经被吃了一大半，而老人还风趣地批评自己的左手“该工作的时候却在休息”的时候，我也被老人乐观的精神所折服。在生活中，有些损失是不可避免的，我们应该以乐观的态度来对待，不能斤斤计较。
最后，小说以一个少年看到老渔夫在度量足有十八英尺长的大马林鱼，再次描写了这条鱼的巨大，说明老渔夫所克服的困难之大，非比寻常。
小说歌颂了老渔夫不畏艰险努力奋斗的精神，我们也应该像他那样，不能满足于现状，应该积极向上，做任何事都要坚持不懈，遇到困难要迎难而上，决不能半途而废。只有这样，我们才能获得更大的成功和胜利。
这个寒假，我看了好几本励志小说，大多数都是走马观花，看过便算了，可是其中一本却给我留下了深刻的印象，让我学会了不少。现在，就让我给你们介绍一下这本书吧，它就是《老人与海》。
《老人与海》主要讲述的是一位老渔夫圣地亚哥，在连续84天没有捕到鱼的情况下仍然不屈不挠，终于在第85天钓到了一条大马林鱼。可是这条鱼实在太大了，老人花了整整三天才将它杀死，绑在小船的一边。在回去的途中，老人屡屡遭到鲨鱼的袭击，几次九死一生，最后回到港口后只剩下鱼头鱼尾和一条脊骨作为他胜利的见证。
朴实的语言，理性却不乏温情的描述，将一个“硬汉”形象跃然纸上。前言用“英雄主义”概括了住本书的主旨，然而我觉得最打动我内心的并不是这个冰冷且略显干涩的词语。圣地亚哥并不是一个高不可攀的伟人，而确确实实，就像生活在我们身边的人一样，这份亲*感，让我对这本书格外感同身受。圣地亚哥是一个普通的渔夫的化身，没有傲人的智慧，力量，单凭一份永不言败的大无畏精神就做了一件似乎看起来不可能的事，这让我看到了一个普通人的潜能，也让我明白了：人的潜能是无限的，只要你愿意去争取，去拼搏，去努力,即使是一个普通人，也可以凭自己的努力完成一件伟大的事，就像这本书里说的一样“一个人并不是生来就要被打败的，你尽可以消灭他，可就是打不败他”
由这本书我也想到了学*，每个人的天赋有高有低，为了同一个结果要付出的努力也不尽相同，但是我们不应该为一时的得失或沾沾自喜，或一蹶不振，而是应该调整心态，尽自己最大的努力，去取得一个最好的结果，我相信，我们每个人内心都有一个“圣地亚哥”，这要你肯付出，成功之花必然会绽放。
莎士比亚曾经说过：“生活里没有书籍，就好像没有阳光；智慧里没有书籍，就好像鸟儿没有翅膀”。我觉得，生活里没有书籍，就好像蜜蜂没能采到花蜜一样，我读过很多书，其中印象最深的一本书是《老人与海》，讲述的是一个十分简单却又回味无穷的故事：一个年迈的老人已经84天没有打到一条鱼了，以前跟他一起打鱼的小伙子因为父亲的命令离开了他。但他仍不认输，决定出海捕鱼，在第85天终于捕到了一条身长十八英尺，重一千五百磅的大马林鱼。但好景不长，马林鱼被鲨鱼吃光了。虽然老人只拖着大马林鱼的骨架回来了，可他却凭着他那不屈服于失败的 精神，成功赢得了大家的尊敬。
海明威因为在小说中体现了人在“充满暴力和死亡的现实生活中”表现出来的勇气而获得1954年诺贝尔文学奖。获奖原因是：“因为他精通于叙事艺术，突出地表现在他的*著《老人与海》中，同时也由于他在当代风格中所发挥的影响。”这一称赞，对于海明威来说是当之无愧的。可想而知，海明威为世界文学开启了一扇光辉的大门。
故事的老人拎着一条马林鱼的骨架回来，他不是最后的胜利者，但他依然赢得了所有人的尊重。他虽然失败，却仍然战胜了自己。他是一个永远都不会被打败的勇士，是一个真正的超越了自我的人。我在他的面前，显得多么渺小，我从来没有挑战过我的极限，遇事都只会求助他人或是逃避。其实人是有自己的极限的，是可以挑战自我的。不论圣地亚哥失败或者胜利，他都是挑战过自己极限的第一人，是永远站在大海中一艘小小的船上即将扬帆远航的人。
人是有上进心的，我相信任何人都会因此改变自己。我们要走的路就是一片汪洋大海，无数次的抉择，无数次的挑战都让我们对自己有更清醒的认知。这就是我读这本书所收获的，我在读完这本书后，也才认清自己，原来我在圣地亚哥面前是这么渺小，我也要向他学*，多读书，挑战自己的极限。
