In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. But Gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising. Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.
Whenever I think of Gloria, I can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university. Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. As we all know, Beijing has the opportunity to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Game. We have been waiting for years for this chance to show others around the world to our very home, and show them the combination of technology, history, and environment that we all cherish well. We’re pretty satisfied with our nationality, locally. But as I traveled to a few foreign countries, I realize that some children with Chinese backgrounds are unwilling or ashamed to be what they are, because of some unavoidable racism and racial discrimination. And some are just embarrassed because they have black hair, brown eyes and yellow skin; they think being like this makes them look ugly, some even wished that they were Caucasian. It’s a sad reality that these people really exist. So I realized that how important it is to make understanding between others and us.
So, what does racism have to do with the 2008 Olympics? As I have mentioned, it’s a chance. But it isn’t just a chance for us to go and show others our culture. It’s a chance for us to go and show some people who we really are, it’s a chance for us to go and show some people that if they can do it, we can do it, too. It’s a chance to let them change their view about us forever, and then they will know that no matter what race you are we are all the same, no race is more better then the other in any field. But this chance only comes for once in a lifetime; let’s not waste it. I don’t think anyone wants to wait for another fifty years; the future is now. So don’t stand there and wait, you have to run to it. Maybe things will happen during this marathon, but one thing is for sure, we will all make it. So let’s not lose faith.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen,When I was in high school, I once did very poorly on an important exam. My father didn’t punish me, but told me one simple sentence “fishing itself is more important than the fish.”
I was a bit unsure hearing that. I know that my father loves fishing. I often saw him release the fish after catching them. And he had told me more than once that he went fishing just because he wanted to feel the rod in his hands as the fish plays with the hook, and to feel the thrill of lifting the fish out of the water. But I could not find out what his words have to do with me. I repeated his words over and over again. Then I began to understand what he really meant. To his way of thinking, the process of doing something is much more important than the result. And I realized a truth that I could cherish: those who are optimistic and self-confident, and who enjoy doing something new, worry less about failure. Once, my parents both go on business. I worry “Where would I find food? How would I cook it?” Actually I know little about cooking.

Today I would like to talk about current environment situations which you can see all over the world. While we are pursuing better ways of lives, more problems we are also making. Sometimes we only notice a unilateral aspect of the matter while ignoring its various functions. This kind of negligence, however, may cause serious problems that could be devastating.
It is said that one false move may lose the game. This is proved in our daily life obviously. As the economy is growing rapidly day after day, manufacturers are looking for more opportunities to gain numerous profit. To earn more money, one way is to decrease the cost of the products. They move their factories to developing countries which can not only benefit them much more profit than before, but also those countries welcome them since they can help increase the countries’ GDP.
While it seems we can gain a lot from building factories to produce products, the shortcomings of these buildings are becoming obvious. Though at the beginning, those developing countries did gain a lot of profit. As time passes, people living surround the factories deposit industrial waste into the river which directly leads to the influence of human’s lives. Fish died, birds disappeared, people moved, and we couldn’t imagine what would come next. These industries also use lots of resources to carry on their production. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are discharged, we all know the consequence of that, global warming—as one of the most essential environmental problems in the world, is becoming more and more serious currently. That the local government ignored was that these factories damaged their environment without any punishment but reception! They didn’t notice the negative aspect on this investment. What a pity!
In summary, nowadays, businessmen are destroying our motherland—earth for themselves. What should we do in this situation? Ignore them or try to take some actions on it? I believe all of us will choose the latter, right? So just do it, nothing is impossible.

The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live in Xiamen.
In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only follow the common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique custom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo Bing”.
“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all Xiamen people play during this festival. Usually family members or close friends get together around a table with a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl. We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.
In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited our foreign friends to come to our home to celebrate the Festival together. They have two children who are younger than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we kids played “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share with our guests as their prizes.They enjoyed the game and our get-together very much.
The literal translation of “Bo Bing” is “mooncake gambling.” But actually it is not gambling, at least our family never plays it that way. For us, it is more an occasion of happy sharing and getting-together. This is why Xiamen’s Mid-Autumn Festival has become my favorite festival in the year.

as a university student, establishing a dream is one of the most important things we have to do .but everyone must see the reality clearly at first. your family condition, your personal ability, your social intercourse , your subject and the job you want to do, these things show you the reality and lead you to establish a dream.

As Americans gather to celebrate this week, we show our gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. We are grateful for our friends and families who fill our lives with purpose and love. And in this Thanksgiving week, we offer thanks and praise to the provider of all these gifts, Almighty God.
We also recognize our duty to share our blessings with the least among us. Throughout the holiday season, schools, churches, synagogues and other generous organizations gather food and clothing for their neighbors in need. Many young people give part of their holiday to volunteer at homeless shelters or food pantries. On Thanksgiving, and on every day of the year, America is a more hopeful nation because of the volunteers who serve the weak and the vulnerable.
The Thanksgiving tradition of compassion and humility dates back to the earliest days of our society. And through the years, our deepest gratitude has often been inspired by the most difficult times. Almost four centuries ago, the pilgrims set aside time to thank God after suffering through a bitter winter. George Washington held Thanksgiving during a trying stay at Valley Forge. And President Lincoln revived the Thanksgiving tradition in the midst of a civil war.
The past year has brought many challenges to our nation, and Americans have met every one with energy, optimism and faith. After lifting our economy from a recession, manufacturers and entrepreneurs are creating jobs again. Volunteers from across the country came together to help hurricane victims rebuild. And when the children of Beslan, Russia suffered a brutal terrorist attack, the world saw America's generous heart in an outpouring of compassion and relief.
The greatest challenges of our time have come to the men and women who protect our nation. We're fortunate to have dedicated firefighters and police officers to keep our streets safe. We're grateful for the homeland security and intelligence personnel who spend long hours on faithful watch. And we give thanks to the men and women of our military who are serving with courage and skill, and making our entire nation proud.
Like generations before them, today's armed forces have liberated captive peoples and shown compassion for the suffering and delivered hope to the oppressed. In the past year, they have fought the terrorists abroad so that we do not have to face those enemies here at home. They've captured a brutal dictator, aided last month's historic election in Afghanistan, and help set Iraq on the path to democracy.
Our progress in the war on terror has made our country safer, yet it has also brought new burdens to our military families. Many servicemen and women have endured long deployments and painful separations from home. Families have faced the challenge of raising children while praying for a loved one's safe return. America is grateful to all our military families, and the families mourning a terrible loss this Thanksgiving can know that America will honor their sacrifices forever.
As Commander-in-Chief, I've been honored to thank our troops at bases around the world, and I've been inspired by the efforts of private citizens to express their own gratitude. This month, I met Shauna Fleming, a 15-year-old from California who coordinated the mailing of a million thank you letters to military personnel. In October, I met Ken Porwoll, a World War II veteran who has devoted years of his retirement to volunteering at a VA medical center in Minneapolis. And we've seen the generosity of so many organizations, like Give2theTroops, a group started in a basement by a mother and son that has sent thousands of care packages to troops in the field.
Thanksgiving reminds us that America's true strength is the compassion and decency of our people. I thank all those who volunteer this season, and Laura and I wish every American a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.

I enter tile university after years of hardstudy and preparation(准备). But life in the university is not as satisfactory(满意) as what I had expected. I become lazy and don't want to study.I become silcent. I become puzzled. I don't know what I can do in the future. Then I become unhappy.
Four years in the university is only a short period when compared my whole lifetime. Now it has passed a half. In this year, many people ,such as my parents,my friends, ask me what I want to do and tell me to map out a plan for my life. I don't want to follow their suggestion, and I want to go my style. So I think carefully. I have been a young volunteer(志愿者) for five years.It's very happy and significant. Then I have a dream.I want to join the University Student Volunteers Go West Programe. I think I can be a teacher in the west.I want to try my best to help them and help me. I want to see the world cearly. Now I can't reach its demand and it's very diffcult,but I will work hard in the next two years. There is an old saying"where there is a will,there is a way.(有志者事竟成)"I think my dream can come ture.Now in the university I mature,and in the university I prepare for the real world.
At last,I want to say to everybody"Hlod fast to your dreams,no matter how big or small they are.The path to dreams may not be smooth(*滑) and wide,even some sacrifices(牺牲) are needed.But hold on to the end,you can find there is no geater happiness than making your dream come ture."
咦？大白天的谁在耍空竹？哦，原来是端午节的节目，瞧！他们来了。
只见五个穿着红色衣服的老奶奶上了舞台，她们表演了一些基础动作之后，突然留出了一个大空位，接着一位穿着金色衣服的老奶奶上了舞台……
接着，一位穿着蓝色衣服的青年上了舞台，只见他双手挥动着，熟练地做着每一个动作，好像他的.思维已经控制住了这个空竹。空竹在他的手中跃动，就像一只欢乐的鸟儿，在枝头欢快地嬉戏着……突然，他把身体向后一仰，把空竹一翻，开始倒着玩空竹。他把空竹抛得高高的，又接住，然后把绳子弯曲，让空竹通过这条绳子又飞回来，回到原来的一端，使空竹的轨迹形成一个椭圆。“好！好！”台下掌声雷动。因为这个动作十分难掌握，既要考虑到空竹的速度是否能撞到棒子后马上跳回另一端，又要考虑空竹飞行的高度和轨迹的圆润度。青年做了几次这个动作后可能感到太难了，就不做了，开始做一个抛球的动作。他把球抛得又高又直，除了一次没接住外，他似乎十全十美。突然，他又增加了一个空竹，开始做双空竹跳跃，两个空竹快速地交替着，看得我眼花瞭乱……
空竹表演完了，我心想：为什么要表演空竹呢？哦，原来是为了保护国家非物质文化遗产，让空竹一代一代地流传下去。
