When the Arctic Ocean freezes over in the autumn, polar bears set off in search of their favorite meals: fatty ringed seals and bearded seals. By the summer, the sea ice begins to melt and break apart. Deprived of access to the tasty seals, polar bears spend the summer fasting. At least, that's what's supposed to happen. As the planet warms, the warmer ice-free season is getting longer and longer. So what's a hungry bear to do?
Scientists once thought that polar bears might survive by supplementing their pinniped diet by turning to terrestrial foods like snow geese, their eggs and caribou.
"We've had this debate in the literature about whether terrestrial foods are nutritionally relevant to polar bears during the on-land season when the ice has melted."
University of Alberta biologist Nick Pilfold.
"And we've known for a long time, going back to research in the early 70s, even going to back to early explorer logs, that polar bears will consume terrestrial based foods. But the debate was always whether those foods actually add up, energetically." In other words, do these substitutes provide enough nutrition to make up for the lost seals?
To find out, Pilfold and his colleagues estimated the weight lost each day by polar bears in the wilds of western Hudson Bay during the ice-free season, when they could ostensibly be chowing down on terrestrial foods. Then they compared that to the weight lost by bears that are temporarily held in Manitoba's Polar Bear Alert Program.
While captive, the bears do not eat. They drop about one kilogram each day. But the wild bears, who had access to the Arctic snack bar, lost the same amount of weight each day. The results are in the journal Physiological and Biochemical Zoology.
"Which is really saying that the terrestrial foods do not have dense enough energy to offset the mass loss. So this idea that bears can just switch from eating sea ice–based food to land food and that's going to help supplement against longer ice-free seasons, that really doesn't show up in the data."
The problem is that polar bears evolved to rely on the marine diet.
"The food on land is protein and carbohydrate based, and the food the polar bears really focus on is fat. Fat is the name of the game for these bears; they're highly adapted to absorbing that fat into their system and putting it onto their body as body mass, so they can fast on it later on. And the only thing that's going to provide them with that type of fat are marine mammals. And they can only access those marine mammals when there's sea ice."
Adult males can go eight months without food. But younger, sub-* bears, which are no longer nursing and must hunt, can't last as long without sea ice. So as the Arctic warms, younger polar bears will disproportionately die out. Leaving the species' survival in doubt.

早上，我像往常一样吃完早餐，就到房间写作业去了。可引起我的注意的是一只蚂蚁，它太小了，很艰难才能看见它，。它弯着细细的腰，像一位刚刚做完累活的老爷爷。它好不容易才爬到桌子上，我想：他辛辛苦苦地把上来有什么用呢 那一刻，我的脑海闪过一个念头，就是把它捏死，可是它的行为使我打消了这个念头。

金鱼
我的妈妈是一个性情中人，她为了能够让我在大年过得开开心心、快快乐乐，决定与爸爸一起带着我去上街买东西。妈妈允许我选一样物品，新衣服、好吃的零食我都不要，偏偏选择了三条既可爱又活泼的小金鱼，这使我的妈妈、爸爸感到十分意外。
我的小金鱼不同凡响，先说一说“小黑”吧。它可顽皮啦！它常常倒在一边，让人大吃一惊，误以为死了，它的头小小的，可是却长着灯泡大小的眼睛，头上还有一条条黑色的小花纹，从头到尾的“皮肤”全是一条宽0。5厘米、长4厘米的黑条，给黄色的身上增添了一条条亮丽的风景线。“小黑”它很喜欢打架，眼睛老是盯着人看，也包括我，就象是狗见了生人—汪汪叫似的。

但有时它也挺听话。有一次，它不知道怎么了，用尖爪刮地毯，我一看，怒了，大喝一声：“你再刮地毯的话我就宰了你！”它好像听懂似的立刻停止了它的行动，趴在地上一动不动。一脸无辜的样子望着我。我真不知是打是爱。
它非常喜欢管闲事。一天，一只老鼠偷偷摸摸的进了我家，在厨房偷吃。可惜被小黑看到了，这可怜的老鼠啊！鼠狗本无任何恩怨，可惜，如今，这可怜的小鼠碰到了个闲事老！小黑冲上前一把抓住老鼠，老鼠还不知道，还津津有味的吃着，过了老半天才反应过来。小黑把老鼠一放又一抓玩似的折磨老鼠。小黑真是狗拿耗子多管闲事。
我家的小黑给我们增添了很多乐趣，它在我的记忆中留下了不可磨灭的印象，小黑我会永远记住你这个好伙伴的。小黑，我最喜欢的就是你！
2。早晨，太阳才露出小半边脸，像害羞的小姑娘。“汪汪汪”小狗欢欢起床了，他就像一个准时的闹钟，每天天还没大亮就叫了起来。
我起了床，首先就上了楼，伸伸腿，弯弯腰，做做早操。这时小狗欢欢跑了上来，用头蹭蹭我的脚，不时发出哼哼的声音，不用说，它是要吃早餐了。我舀来一小撮饭放在碗里，还没来得及放汤放菜，这个小馋猫却早已经吃了起来，还不时哼哼地叫上两声，好象在说：“谢谢你，小主人！”
下午，阳光明媚，微风轻轻地吹着路旁的梧桐树。我无聊地呆在家里，发现了侧躺在地上睡懒觉的欢欢，突然起了一个念头。于是我找来两条绳子，悄悄地把欢欢的腿捆住了。欢欢醒了，挣扎着，痛苦地翻来覆去，眼睛里满是乞求的目光，我却乐得哈哈大笑。这时，爸爸来了，跑到了欢欢身边，把绳子解开了，还狠狠地批评了我。欢欢也不再理我了。我真后悔，早知道就不这样了。
之后，我拿来了欢欢最喜欢的牛奶，放在它面前，可他连看都不看一眼。最后，我拿着面包，诚心诚意地向欢欢道了歉，欢欢似乎才原谅我了。
欢欢是我倾诉的对象，当我有烦恼，有委屈时，它都是我最忠实的朋友。那一次，在学校里我被同学误会了，回到家就扑在床上痛哭。这时欢欢来了，在床边哼哼地叫着，用它特有的方式表示关切和安慰。于是我抱着欢欢，向它倾诉我的委屈，欢欢似乎听懂了，偎在我的身边，轻轻地哼着。

“喜讯，喜讯，大家不用愁没药吃了”小兔记者宣传着小松鼠开药店的是事情。
小松鼠开了一家‘微微森林药店’，刚开张，一大堆小动物就挤着来买药，小松鼠的药店里的药都被抢购一空。只剩下一盒‘咳特灵胶囊’，小松鼠在想：怎么办啊，只剩下一盒药了，明天怎么向客户交代啊，今天卖的药是家里没有用的药啊！对了，可以先歇业一天，就用这一天聘一些会制作药的工人。
这招果然灵，会制作药的小猴正在找工作呢！小猴就用一些时间把很多很多要药制造了出来，但是，小松鼠要发工资了。啊，200动物币怎么可能啊，哎，得把一天卖的药赚的钱给小猴了。
就这样，药店生意越来越红火，小猴也越来越忙，工资从200动物币升到了290动物币，小松鼠算了算，每天能赚的钱就有400动物币，这下小松鼠赚大钱了，也可以寄钱回家了。
小鸡吃了药店里的药病情不但没有好转，反而更加严重了，这件事被森林执法法官熊探长知道了，就到药店里找小松鼠，小松鼠说：“这药不是我制作的，是小猴制作的。”熊探长到小猴家询问小猴：“小鸡吃的药是不是制作的？”小猴说：“确实是我制作的，但是是在松鼠店总指挥我制作的！”熊探长又到小松鼠家询问，小松鼠说：“我根本不会制作药品，叫怎么指挥小猴制作药品啊！”
就这样，熊探长从小猴家跑到小松鼠家，又从小松鼠家跑到小猴家，熊探长认为小猴才是真正的犯罪嫌疑人，就抓住了小猴破了案。
小松鼠终于知道制作药品的知识，也学会了制作药品，从此，‘微微森林药店’越来越红火。
狐狸十分狡猾，左邻右舍都吃过他的苦头。
一天，猴子想出了一个办法，想教训教训他，他把这个办法告诉了兔子，兔子半信疑，不相信。

秋天是个秋高气爽、瓜果飘香的季节。每到这时，森林里的小动物们都要举行一次考试，考点设在山坡上。
这次的监考老师是山羊伯伯，评卷的老师是长颈鹿、大象、小白兔，参加的是小狐狸、松鼠、小狮子。

我的动物朋友——乐乐。乐乐是一只乖巧，聪明，可爱，伶俐的一只小狗狗。
它全身是乳白色的，乌黑的眼睛，棕色的鼻子。
它是我的姥姥在邻居家抱回来的。因为我希望：我和它每天都快快乐乐的，所以给它取名为乐乐。
大家一听到这个名字，肯定以为是《快乐星球》上的主人公—乐乐，可是我家的这只小狗要比那上面乐乐聪明多了。牛皮可不是吹的。
只要我一去姥姥家，不管穿的什么鞋，乐乐都能听的见，而且总是第一个主动迎上去接我。
前一段时间，我爸爸妈妈不在家，我每天来姥姥家。一到放学时间，乐乐都在家门口迎接我。一到吃饭的时间，乐乐总是乖巧的`蹲在我的脚边。
乐乐还特别的有个性。每当我坐到沙发上吃东西时，被它发现了，它都会冲我叫两声，好像撒娇的对我说：“小主人，你给我点儿吃的吧！”

这只小松鼠是表姐送我的，因为它十分幸运，所以我叫它“四叶草”。
“四叶草”长得可爱极了。它有着一身乌黑的皮毛，胖乎乎的身子，摸起来十分光滑，真像一个大绒球。一对小巧玲珑的耳朵，一双乌黑发亮的眼睛，如同一对黑玻璃球，又大又有神。最有趣的是它的尾巴，长长的，毛茸茸的，和他的身体极不相称，举在头顶，像一把大伞。
“四叶草”可调皮了，不是把秋千给啃成两截了，就是把水盆给打翻了，害得阳台变成了“水浸街”!再不是就把松子弄到地上，让全家都摔了个“狗啃泥”。说到这儿，我眼前浮现出一个场景：那天下午，全家都不在，我去上培优课，爸爸在上班，妈妈在回家的路上。我一进门，就张目结舌，嘴巴张得都快装下一个鸡蛋了。原来卧室、阳台的门没关，家里成了个“水浸街”，水盆打翻在地，水漫的四处都是。松鼠还在悠闲地散步，它又成了“罪犯了”。

我的外婆家有一名可爱的小成员，它有着一对连一根针掉落到地都听得见的耳朵，一双水灵灵的大眼睛和一张小巧灵珑的小嘴巴，它就是今天我要介绍的动物朋友---小猫**。
**本来就没有名字，因为我爱叫它**，它就叫**了。
**有着一身灰色的皮毛，头和尾上有黑色的斑纹，体形只不过有一只小狗仔大。
别看**小，它的胃口却很大，不管在多远的地方，一到饭点，**就会第一个跑到饭桌旁，尽自已的全力要饭吃，卖萌，装乖这些可都是它的强项，假若有谁去和它抢吃的，它一定出击，和它打一架，连大黄狗都怕它三分。

**抓过大老鼠，那是一天晚上，**外面回来，嘴里叼了一只正在挣扎的大老鼠，**把大老鼠放在地上，用前爪推了一下老鼠，好像在说：跑嘛，你再跑呀！，老鼠飞快的跑了，我刚要拦住老鼠，结果**猛地跑过去，又把老鼠抓住了。它看着我，好像在说小主人，你看我厉害不厉害？原来**不吃老鼠，只玩老鼠。

喵喵客厅里传来几声清脆的叫声，柔弱但悦耳动听。我知道那是小猫饿了，要吃东西了。
猫一身雪白的，像一个绒球，一对透亮的大眼睛。早晨，像枣核；下午，像汤圆；晚上，又变成了绿宝石，大大的，闪闪发光。它有人字型的嘴巴，两旁有13根胡须，特别硬像尺子一样，可以测量前面路的宽窄。它长长的、白白的尾巴，抽起来，就像白色的鞭子。
猫最喜欢的`食物是鱼。它吃饭时，先靠*食物，用鼻子嗅一嗅，然后用小爪子碰一碰，确认没问题后再用嘴巴舔一舔自己的小爪子，然后再用舌头舔一舔，那食物一点一点的，细嚼慢咽地吃进嘴里，还时不时喝一口水，吃完后便趴在沙发上休息一下。
天气好的时候，我总喜欢和小猫在院子里一起玩耍。第一个项目滚毛绒球：我拿出家中的毛绒球，放在小猫前面，这时，小猫就会把爪子放在毛绒球上，轻轻一推，就会滚到我面前，然后用透亮的大眼睛盯着我，并且还喵喵几声，于是我就蹲下身子，把毛绒球推给小猫。就这样一直推一直滚
项目二捉迷藏；小猫藏起来，我去找它。可是，每回，它都藏得那么好，都不容易被发现（还有很多游戏）。
我上二年级时，课程加重，妈妈就把小猫送给了别人，我很伤心。至今，每当我玩游戏时，耳边就会响起喵喵的声音。
“吱吱吱……”听，又是这该死的老鼠在作怪了。不知道怎么了，最*，我家出现了这讨人厌的老鼠，让我们不得不去找对老鼠有着严重威胁性的官府——猫。
起先，这猫一来就整天的大吼大叫，不停地再笼子里翻来覆去的，超得连邻居们都不耐烦了。但是她吵得很可爱，在闹的同时，她还在笼子里舔一舔自己的羽毛，在笼子里滚来滚去，超级卡哇伊的，屁股还轻轻地扭来扭去。看了的人，魂儿都会被她夺去。由此，我和妹妹产生了怜悯之心，于是，我们就把她放了出来。嘿，没想到她不仅不闹了，还乖乖地再那儿玩儿她的。我们见小猫这么可爱，就逗她玩儿。小猫就用她那小巧的爪子来抓我们。就这样，我们熟识了。
她行动敏捷，四肢灵活。一个星期六的早晨，我应该洗澡了，当我正在找我的衣服时，小猫以迅雷不及掩耳之势跑进衣柜里，在我的新衣服里安然无恙地趴着，一动也不动，还在那里逍遥自在地舔着自己的毛。我笑了，真是拿她没有办法啊。我轻轻地把她抱了出来。没想到她在被我抱出来的那一刹那，她就把尿洒在了我的身上，蹭了蹭脚，还装作一副如无其事的样子，飞快地逃走了。真是拿她又生气又无奈啊。当我收拾我的衣柜时，发现了我那失踪已久的姐姐的照片，那是我曾经很珍惜的照片，今天竟然找到了。照片上的姐姐像往常一样脸色是那么清秀，顿时，我的泪水涌了出来。这张照片以前是神秘版的失踪了，现在又是奇迹般的出现了。这张照片的再次发现都要归功于小猫，虽然她有时会很淘气，但她给予了我幸运。于是，我下定决心要给小猫取这样一个名字——LUCKY。
有一次，我觉得十分无聊，我就把LUCKY带到社区上玩儿，顺便带了一支钢笔和一个笔记本，记录草丛中的一些小昆虫。LUCKY在那儿东望望、西看看，上蹿下跳、左顾右盼的，脚上好像都快要磨起茧了，也不知道她在干些什么。我放下了手中的笔和本子，去都LUCKY，挠了挠她的下巴，她就在地上滚来滚去的，真可爱，我们沉浸在快乐的江河当中。当我又反过来拿本子时，发现我的钢笔不见了，就只剩下个本子。我慌了，因为那是我最心爱的钢笔啊！我马上在四周仔细巡查了一遍，但就是没有看到我的钢笔，就当我的鼻子酸了，想要哭的时候，LUCKY突然出现，嘴里叼着我的那支心爱的钢笔。顿时，我更加肯定了：LUCKY是当之无愧的幸运猫。
后来，我家的'老鼠全被LUCKY一扫而光，LUCKY也该走了，怎么突然想要很多老鼠啊。虽然我和她只相处了几个星期，但我们已经产生了难以割舍的感情。我相信，不管走到天涯海角，她永远是我的LUCKY！
在我们的身边，有许多的小动物，它们是我们的好朋友，带给我们很多欢乐。我也有这样的两个朋友，是两只绿绿的小乌龟。
这两只小乌龟的壳很像刚插满秧苗的龙脊梯田，层次分明；把它们翻过来，腹部的壳，底色是淡灰色，上面还有孔雀羽毛的图案。它们身上的花纹像一条条河流，那小眼睛像两颗芝麻嵌在小小脑袋上，叶子一块橙色的斑点就印在眼睛后面。
它们不仅样子萌，动作也很可爱。
有一次，我进到房间给它们喂食，看见它们在狗刨式游泳，一左一右，一前一后，真可爱！当它们看到我时，一只缩进壳里来保护自己。而另一只呢？爬到了它们家的旁边，用身体去撞击墙壁，企图撞开墙壁逃出去。它好像在说：放我出去，放我出去！看来乌龟比较胆小啊！
乌龟特别喜欢爬行，我还给它们举行了一场爬行比赛呢！预备，三二一，开始！我一声令下，两只乌龟都一步一步慢慢地爬向终点。一号乌龟领先了，二号乌龟也不甘示弱，从它们的眼神中我看到了想赢的决心。一号选手率先到达山地路段，它一点一点地爬，用它的小爪子抠住山，颤颤巍巍的用它的腿使劲蹬着地，失败了也不气馁，不言放弃，终于爬过了山地！最后，一号选手率先抵达终点了！
当太阳出来了的时候，它们兴奋的不得了，爬上了露台晒太阳。它们尽最大努力把头、腿、尾巴伸向太阳，舒服地眯着眼睛，睡着了。它们好像梦到了自己长出了翅膀，在天空中翱翔。
这就是我的朋友，两只可爱、胆小、坚持不懈的'小乌龟，它们会给我带来许多欢乐！
我家有一只活泼可爱的小比熊，它是我的好朋友。
小比熊狗非常可爱，它全身长着白色的绒毛，摸在手上特别舒服，一尘不染的毛，看上去就像白色的绒球。小小的比熊狗有一双大大的眼睛，就像一对黑宝石，嵌在闪闪发光的蓝玉石上。小比熊狗，还有一只锋利的爪子。它的叫声很特别，不像别人家的狗汪汪叫，而是阿呜阿呜的叫，我为它起了一个好听的名字叫球球，因为它已经胖得像一个球了，它特别能吃，一口气可以吃五个大梨呢！而且它什么都吃，就是不吃狗粮！
它的性格十分古怪，说它老实吧，的确是呀要不怎么三天都不出声呢？说它贪吃吧一点也没说错，我们吃饭的时候它就会飞快地跑出来。
球球可淘气了。我们每天早上起床不是发现少了一只鞋，就是发现鞋子里有股臭味，这一定是球球干的，可是每当这时候我都找不到它，它好像自己已经知道犯了错误，看它可怜巴巴的样子，让人不免又有一种怜爱，轻轻地抚摸着它柔软的绒毛，我的怒气早已抛到九霄云外去了。
每天我放学回家时，它总是围着我转悠，我写作业时，球球就趴在我脚下，静静地看着我。这就是我的小狗球球，也就是我的`宝贝。

它们是4只小可爱，我还给它们取了名儿：小黑、团圆、乔治和欧弟。小黑是从头到脚都是黑色的，他最喜欢围着它们的家绕圈，就像一个尽职的.保安在巡逻；团圆的身体是黑的、四只腿却是白的，就像穿一双白靴子，它最大乐趣是舔它的靴子，真有趣！乔治的身体与前腿都是黑色的后腿是白的，而欧弟却与乔治相反，身体与后腿是黑的，前腿是白的；我想它们俩天生就是运动员，每天不停地互相追逐，像一阵风似的，一刻也不停歇。
四只小可爱是我在一天晚上偶然发现的。那天我和妈妈在回家的路上，看到几团黑影窜来窜去，突然一个黑影窜到我脚下，我定神一看原来是一只可爱的小狗，另外三只也窜了出来；我一看到它们那水晶似的大眼睛、毛茸茸的尾巴甩的滴溜溜，我就喜欢上它们了；听到它们的小声呜咽，像是在跟我说：我饿了、我饿了，我赶紧跑回家拿了红枣和水果给它们吃，可惜它们不吃，看来它们只吃肉。
第二天，我特意准备了一些肉骨头，当四只小狗看见我手上的肉骨头，高兴地嗷嗷直叫快给我，快给我！我把肉骨头放在碗里，四个小脑袋迫不及待挤了进来，我急忙说慢点吃，你们都有份。它们像听懂我话，马上变得谦让了。后来我每天都给它们带好吃的，它们渐渐喜欢上了我：小黑喜欢在我脚下绕圈的跑，时不时还咬住我的裤管，像要和我说悄悄话；团圆喜欢我摸着它的头，而它闭着眼睛在享受；乔治喜欢在地板上打滚，让我给它挠痒痒；欧弟最贪吃了，一看到我就竖起鼻子，嗅个不停。
一次，下起了倾盆大雨，我心里咯噔一下：小狗的家会不会有危险？我撑着伞、顶着风、冒着雨冲了出去，看到小狗的房子快塌了，我急忙找了塑料袋与木板将小狗的家支撑起来包裹好，这时我的身上已湿透了，但是我笑了，我朋友的家保住了，小狗在家里向我直摇尾巴，汪汪叫着，像在说：谢谢，朋友！
这就是我的四只小可爱。
我家楼下有一只小猫，它的上半身是黑色的，下半身是白色的，就像披了一件黑色的披风，因此，我给它起名为黑披风。
黑披风有一双时刻竖立着的耳朵，一对活灵活现的大眼睛，一张小小的嘴巴，再配上它那一件黑披风，显得格外威风。
