他在曹操的大堂上说道：“箭在弦上，不得不发！”这句话说的有骨气！大难当头不临阵退缩，反而大顶曹公，曹公是爱惜人才之君，不再计较陈琳的无礼。这事一说明了陈林是一位忠臣，不惜生命保卫国君尊严，可敬！二说明了曹公大度，陈琳骂了曹公祖宗三代，按说应当定之欺君之罪，斩首示众，可曹公却重用了他，可见其大度也。
